Capes & Cloaks Part 3: the Chimere with Train
Today in our capes series we have a brief post, taking a look at a historical photograph. Specifically, it is a portrait of Geoffrey Fisher, Archbishop of Canterbury, taken outside Lambeth Palace.
It appears to show the Archbishop wearing choir dress with a chimere, as is typical for Anglican bishops to this day — however, his chimere appears to have a train. This calls to mind the Cappa Magna of Rome.
Unfortunately we do not have any more information or context on this peice of choir dress. If any reader does, please contact us to share what you know. For further reading, the first post in this series may be interesting, and can be found here.
